A Letter From Tom

Our vision of community is rooted in a respect for and appreciation of the natural wonders of the property.

In the three years that we have now been working to bring the Edgemont highlands Community to life there is much to reflect back on and even more to ponder for the future. Before any work began, our Mission Statement (See “Our Community”) was an important beacon in guiding our direction. Looking back with the perspective of three years, those initial principles still ring true. As our familiarity with the land and all its attributes has grown and deepened the principles of sustainability and stewardship have become even more important.

Our trail system continues to expand, providing easier accessibility to the more remote areas as we continue to discover and learn about the subtleties and nuances of the land. We now have a completed Community Lodge that is already being used, with the promise of providing ever expanding opportunities in the future. Both of our entrances are complete and our giant pine cone and oak leaves entrance sculptures are in place. They have already become local landmarks and our public art commitment continues to grow, providing richness, texture and a sense of humor to our community.

With over 60 homes either completed or under construction the architectural landscape is rapidly moving from a vision to a reality. It is gratifying to have others recognize and acknowledge our collective efforts. Four Corners Construction was named Colorado’s 2005 Built Green Builder of the Year for their Copperhead Camp project and the Highland Homes Villa Ladera model was named Colorado’s Built Green Home of the Year in the $500,000+ category.

The real validation for me is to see people moving into the community, embracing our ideas, using the trails, appreciating the natural beauty – becoming part of the community. Edgemont Highlands continues to grow and prosper and our commitment to our original principles is bolstered as we see people’s lives enriched by all the community has to offer.

Signed, Tom Gorton
